Use a Mediator Who Knows Civil Rights Law

About Civil Rights Mediation LLC

Civil Rights Mediation LLC is a private, professional mediation firm specializing in the resolution of complex civil rights disputes. Although many mediation firms assist with the negotiation of disputes in a wide variety of subject matter areas, few of them have access to mediators with knowledge of, or experience with, the nuances of civil rights laws, which often present unique challenges. Indeed, many complex civil rights claims involve advocacy organizations whose interests transcend individual relief. Such claims require familiarity with the parameters and boundaries of civil rights laws, whose jurisprudence is significantly different from traditional contract, tort, product liability and consumer protection litigation. Civil Rights Mediation LLC therefore limits its dispute resolution services only to those disputes involving allegations of discrimination, infringement of rights, unfair treatment, and other claims typically asserted under local, state, and national civil rights laws.

About

Founder and Principal Mediator

The founder of Civil Rights Mediation LLC is Stephen M. Dane, a nationally recognized lawyer with decades of experience in civil rights litigation, both as a defense attorney and as a plaintiffs’ attorney. For much of his career Dane represented employers, corporations, and governments in their defense of employment and civil rights claims under Title VII, the ADA, §1983 and other laws. But he is also known for his innovative and ground-breaking cases on behalf of victims of housing discrimination, and for 15 years was a member of the Washington, D.C., civil rights firm Relman, Dane & Colfax PLLC. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© in the field of Civil Rights. Dane’s intimate familiarity with the vast range of civil rights laws that generate difficult and complex litigation makes him unique among other skilled mediators.

Dane’s background also includes extensive experience in the judicial branch of government and in the organized bar. After graduating from law school cum laude, Dane served as a law clerk for the Honorable Pierce Lively of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Dane later was appointed as Acting Judge of the Perrysburg, Ohio, Municipal Court, where he served for 17 years. Dane’s reputation for fairness and respect for those with whom he deals is recognized by his peers. Dane was elected several times to the Toledo Bar Association Board of Trustees where he served for 10 years. In 2010 and 2011, Dane was elected and served as President of the Toledo Bar Association.
